Salt Dough Dinosaur Fossils

Got some time to fill? Make an imPRESSive creation with the kids with this salt dough dinosaur fossils activity.

  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup luke warm water
  • Dinosaur figurines
  1. Combine flour and salt.
  2. Next, add water and still until dough forms.
  3. Knead dough for 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Once dough is ready, roll it out to ½ inch thick. Use cookie cutters or your hands to make round shape for fossil impressions.
  5. Have children take dinosaur figures and press them into the dough. They can press in just the feet or the whole body to create their fossils.
  6. Put in the oven for about 2-3 hours at 200 degrees F.
  7. Once out of the oven and cooled, put your fossils on display!

Dino Buddies Handprint

This easy art project is the perfect activity for family members looking to lend a hand in for some quality bonding time.

  • Paper
  • Paints (a variety of colors needed)
  • Paintbrush
  • Marker or Color Pencils
  • Lots of Hands!
  1. Paint both hands, put your wrists together, then press down on the paper with your fingers together to make opposite handprints that create Petra's body and wings.
  2. Use your thumb print to create the head.
  3. Finally, paint or draw her beak and legs.
  1. Paint one half of hand (thumb side) purple. Make sure to paint the thumb, too. Then paint the other half of hand and the remaining four fingers yellow.
  2. Keep fingers together. Press painted hand on to paper to make Bronto's head.
  3. Wash hand of paint and choose a red color that will be for Bronto's spine. Paint one finger tip that color and stamp finger around the shape of his head.
  4. Use a marker or colored pencil to draw in his eyes and smile.
  1. Paint palm of hand green. Make sure to paint the fingers and thumb, too.
  2. Keep fingers together. Press painted hand on to paper to make Herbie's head.
  3. Wash hand of paint and choose a purple color that will be for Herbie's spine. Paint one finger tip that color and stamp finger around the shape of his head.
  4. Use a marker or colored pencil to draw in his eyes and smile.
